without all the unhealthy fat!
Get ready to sink your teeth into the first-ever, healthy dessert cookbook specifically designed to bake with heart-healthy olive oil!
Olive Oil Desserts: Delicious and Healthy Heart Smart Baking by Micki Sannar, is the first cookbook of its kind. Micki has created every recipe in this book using only heart-healthy olive oil, eliminating saturated and trans fats—butter, hydrogenated oils, margarine, and shortening—that are staples in many traditional desserts, without sacrificing flavor or texture.
Drawing on the ever-growing evidence that olive oil is great for your heart, and personal experience with high cholesterol, Micki has blown the dust off of the tried and true and infused each easy-to-follow recipe with cholesterol-free olive oil. The health benefits of olive oil are endless. Micki, herself, will tell you that after replacing all of the fats in her kitchen with olive oil, she experienced a 100 point drop in her cholesterol!
Included in Olive Oil Desserts:
• Egg substitutions (to further lower cholesterol, those who are vegan or vegetarian)
• Dairy-free options (for those who are lactose sensitive, vegan or vegetarian)
• A guide to the many varieties of olive oil
• Whole wheat options (protect against heart disease and diabetes)
In addition to household favorites such as toll cookies, brownies and apple pie, the cookbook features instructions for making more than 60 mouth-watering treats, among them chocolate chip buttermilk cake, silky cheesecake with strawberries, lemon sugar cookies, pecan coconut bars, and apple cinnamon rolls.
Each heart healthy recipe is designed to tantalize your taste buds and satisfy your cravings just like Grandma’s desserts used to, but these desserts are edgier and sophisticated with one-third less fat. Your taste buds will thank you and so will your heart!

Micki's Simple Brownies
This is an old fashioned brownie. Because of the air whipped into the first stage of this recipe, it comes out crunchy and chewy. To make these brownies even more decadent, add a half a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. I can't eat a brownie without a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you shouldn't either.
4 oz unsweetened chocolate squares
1/3 cup mild tasting extra virgin olive oil
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
For added decadence only:
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F coat an 8X8X2-in pan with olive oil cooking spray. In a small mixing bowl melt chocolate and olive oil for 1 minute 30 seconds; set aside. In a mixer; beat eggs, sugar and vanilla at high speed for 5 minutes or more. Blend in chocolate mixture. Fold in flour and salt until just mixed. If adding chocolate chips, this would be the time. Mix in until just blended. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean. Remove, cool slightly. Serve and enjoy!!
*This recipe can be made with whole wheat pastry flour.
